From The Attic
One day I stumbled upon a box of photographs, slides, and negatives hidden away in my Nana’s attic. No one had ever seen them. It was like I’d found a time capsule. As I slowly went through the box, looking at hundreds of images, I was able to see the world as she had seen it, the way she had photographed it.
I told her that this work was beautiful and that it was time to show it to everyone. She said, “They are worthless, old photographs. No one wants to see my photographs.” After I talked her into it, with her permission of course, I am scanning them onto the computer, cleaning them up, and displaying them for the world to see. Her work has become a wonderful collaboration between her and I, spanning six decades.
She claims to not be much of a photographer, and told me her passion was more for drawing. Between manually setting everything to take each picture and capturing hundreds of well-framed scenes, I told her she might be more of a photographer than she realized.
These photographs tell stories that may have been long forgotten without their existence.
As I scan and edit these photographs I’ll be putting them up here, and on my From The Attic blog http://fromtheattic2.wordpress.com/ It’ll be a slow process, but very worth it.
